TEC Nuclear - Simple Solutions to Complex Nuclear Problems

TEC Model 156

Analog Signal Isolator

The TEC Model 156 Analog Signal Isolator is a qualified analog signal isolation device providing better than 120 dB (at 60 Hz) isolation between input and output. The input and output ranges of available models are tabulated below. Effective isolation is provided while powering the isolator from the non-1E-side. The TEC Model 156 is designed for field mounting.

Type testing of the TEC Model 156 is in accordance with the following standards:

  • IEEE 323-1974 Standard for Qualifying Class 1E Equipment for Nuclear Power Generating Stations
  • IEEE 344-1975 Recommended Practice for Seismic Qualification of Class 1E Equipment for Nuclear Power Generating Stations
  • 381-1977 – IEEE Standard Criteria for Type Tests of Class 1E Modules Used in Nuclear Power Generating Stations
  • IEEE 472-1974 Standard for Surge Withstand Capability

156 IsolatorQualificationSummary

The TEC Model 156 Series Analog Signal Isolators are qualified to meet the requirements of IEEE Standards 323-1974, 344-1975, 381-1977 and 472-1974. The qualification program included baseline functional testing, thermal aging, irradiation aging, seismic testing, and functional testing after each type test.

TEC has performed isolation integrity testing on the Model 156 Isolator. Such testing consisted of the following: (1) Shorts, opens, and 120 V ac at 20 A fault (with input fuses shorted) applied to the non-1E side; and (2) 2000 V dc at 20mA (with input fuses shorted) applied to the non-1E side.

The modules are manufactured by TEC under its Quality Assurance Program in accordance with 10CFR Part 50 Appendix B. If additional information is required on the isolation integrity or qualification of the TEC Model 156 Isolator, copies of pertinent reports are available.
